(wow, a REAL issue, for a change) I've been watching a lot of this in the news.. As in A LOT.. So if our asshole president goes on with this, pano na ung mga friends kong taga Cotabato, Davao, Lanao, and *gulp* Zamboanga? OHSHITLONGDISTANCE..  Pero di nga.. Maybe you can provide concrete info on this issue.
I'm not particularly aware of this as I am busy with my
paper. Anyway.
I will edit my post once I know more about this thing.

Mindanao and parts of Palawan are known to be islam/moro ancestral lands.
Apparently, they want out of the Philippine map and proclaim themselves a whole new country, complete with by-laws and a constitution.
Affected provinces are the following:
Lanao (del Norte and del Sur), Zamboanga (del Norte and del Sur), Basilan, Sulu, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, Shariff Kabunsuan, North and South Cotabato, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, abd Sarangani.

MILF: IT'S A DONE DEAL
That's the position of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) a day after the Supreme Court stopped the MILF and the Philippine government from signing a memorandum of agreement on ancestral domain (MOA-AD) in a bid to end four decades of the seperatist war in Mindanao.
Ghadzali Jaafar, MILF vice chair for political affairs, told reporters by phone from his base in Mindanao that the MOA became binding when it was initialed by the two sides on July 27 and Tuesday's aborted ceremony in Malaysia was merely a formality.

So, that's it, then? No plebiscite or whatsoever to the people? It's like the government owns the people, then gives away their land to be a new country, without even consulting the people first!!

Im against it. No way. Our country is small enough. This is not a government issues, it's the people who have issues in this country.

Face it, we're neevr gonna be content. So what if she cheated her way there? You think ERAP might've been less corupt? You think FPJ would've been more credible? You know what I think? I think people should shut up. Give the effin rich corupt government a break. Besides, No one could've done it better. And if there was someone who could've, why isn't he/she there? Sige na guys, matatapos na yung term niya. Now let's wait for the next asshole of a president and oust him too. And then the next one. And the next. Etc.

@martin: well, I believe ancestral domain claims don't really need a plebiscite.. as it's just a matter of land.
as for this, I asked around and then they said it's just similar to the ARMM, like they'll be autonomous and all, but under a supervision of OUR government. They will not be another state entirely as they have no sovereignty.
On a radically different note however, some of my outspoken blockmates are saying that it's just a plot for GMA to declare Martial Law, you know, she promises the land, then takes it back last minute, then MILF (mom I'd love to f*ck it ain't) will wage war, which will prompt GMA to declare the Philippines in a state of emergency, leading her to declare Martial Law.
Aissh. I must look into this more.

Oh fuck, do you guys really want to know what I think of this?
I had this in one of our debate sessions earlier, since we're going to get affected.
The BANGSAMORONS are a selfish group. What do I freaking care about their ancestral lands anyway? They don't have any SOLID proof of it. So how DARE they try to take away the lands wherein people live and work in? HOW DARE THEY CLAIM IT AS THEIR OWN?
In Zamboanga, there are over eight barangays that will be taken away. One of them is consequently where my school is standing. SO WHAT THE HECK, whenever I need to go to school I need a passport to get in? FUCK OFF.
Secondly, I think that the whole ancestral lands excuse is bullshit. How the hell. I mean, Geez, how can they even know if it belongs to their ancestors?
Besides, if they do this, a lot of bloodshed would occur. There was some other country with the same problem, but I don't remember the name. I think it was Pakistan. ._. Anyway, The Indians wanted to take it as their own, and there was this whole war- and look what happened. Is Pakistan better off with India? >.>
A lot of people would protest. Some Passively, some assertively, but most of them would probably be violent. How about the innocent people?
There are lots of threats now. The muslim rebels are everywhere to be seen, and the MILF is going to strike Ateneo and other catholic schools. What then?

Eeh. I'm not sure what side I'm on.
I'm upset that the Philippines will lose a lot of great land (OMG. No more Palawan. I haven't even had the chance to go there yet.), but also, we will lose a lot of resources. For example, there are lots of rubber trees that companies have always wanted get there hands on. Also, bio fuel is made in Mindanao.
But then, when I think about it, I also understand why the Muslims want independence.
I mean, technically, that land is theirs. Not legally, but you gotta pay attention to Philippine history. They used to dominate that area. Even had their little form of government. But when the Spaniards came, all that changed.
Also, I feel like it's unfair for them. I mean, it seems that Mindanao has the least progress. I think that's why they rebelled in the first place. They were not given as much priority compared to the area's of the Philippines.
Another point I have to make -- The Philippines is ruled by the Catholic church. I mean, imagine how weird it must be for the Muslims in a Catholic run country. Difficult. They just want to be a Muslim nation.

Although at some point, this has got me asking, what do they need it for? Isn't ARMM enough? So yeah, both sides are selfish in both ways.
But I feel for the Moros since most of the legislation is in favor of Catholics. Like, Muslims can fucking marry up to four women, provided they can sustain the "harem". But the constitutions has provisions against polygamy! WTF?
