People don't seem to know what the hell vain means. When Friendster users have a picture of themselves they caption, "I'm so VAIN!" and Friendster albums (and even photobucket albums, LAWL) are named "Vanity". They think that looking at yourself in the mirror, fixing your face, making girly poses, and making your body as rape-able as possible makes you vain. Let's look at the definitions of vain from the Web: "Conceited: characteristic of false pride; having an exaggerated sense of self-importance; "a conceited fool"; "an attitude of self-conceited." wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn"Overly proud of oneself, especially when concerning appearance." en.wiktionary.org/wiki/vain"Thinking too highly of one's appearance, accomplishments, or failure." www.godonthe.net/dictionary/v.html"A condition that often begins as pre-cancerous changes in the surface cells of the vagi- OH WAIT, disregard that." So there. Next time you call yourself "vain", remember: you are calling yourself a self-delusional, over-egotistic, unhealthily arrogant prick. And if you have any love for the English language at all, you would tell this to all your friends.

Well seriously, yeah, when you ask people what vain is they say "They love posting pictures of themselves" ... pwede rin, somehow. Pero hindi yun yung meaning talaga. AGREED
They should just use "Camwhore" but whatever.

^ *hits BD with a fry pan* Meannie. Everyone has a right to be vain. D<
Anyway, I'm fine with vain people. They're a great part of the population. x3 So if we lose them, there's no conflict. No minor conflicts, no challenges. Boring. >.>
AND I AM SO NOT VAIN.
There are times. Yeah. Times when I need to look better and be better than anyone else. That's my reason, but wholly I am not vain. Dx

Uhm.. sa tingin ko hindi naman atah masama kung maging "VAIN" ka, kasi, it is ourselves that's making the decision when incomes of our attitude and people don't have the rights to judge whatever are our personalities.
Do I make any sense or not?

^ *hits BD with a fry pan* Meannie. Everyone has a right to be vain. D< Of course. Everyone has the right to call themselves a "self-delusional, over-egotistic, unhealthily arrogant prick." Not everyone who call themselves vain is right, though. Uhm.. sa tingin ko hindi naman atah masama kung maging "VAIN" ka, kasi, it is ourselves that's making the decision when incomes of our attitude and people don't have the rights to judge whatever are our personalities. Do I make any sense or not?Oh, sure, we all have different philosophies. If for you it is okay to be a "self-delusional, over-egotistic, unhealthily arrogant prick" then I respect that.

Vanity is a characteristic of false pride. You do not need false pride no matter how unimportant you feel. False pride is bad no matter how you look at it.

In this thread, BD's mentality is black and white and refuses to see the grey side. No matter who you are and how you look, it's only right to be proud of who you are and how you look, duh! (this part is gonna suck) Binigay sa tin to ni Lord, wag naman nating ikahiya yun diba?

In the world today, false pride is a common virtue, and vanity is morality. If you think about it, most people at the top of the world looks down at us. Yeah, no matter how much they deny it. And we have the tendency to do so too. Little arguments such as this show us how we want other people to look less.
ADMIT IT.
Wasn't there a time when you'd think while posting, "This'll show ****** who's boss!" or "What a wussy, I'm better, I'll tell him myself." Etc.?
I think the world is twisted, but if we keep denying ourselves that, we'd get tainted ourselves.
And a little thing like this- VANITY- it's a start. From vanity starts envy, and defiance wouldn't get you anywhere. In fact, it'd prompt a counterstrike.
Let's say, Martin says he's vain. We can't do anything about since everyone IS vain, even in a little way. We've got egos too, but not as bad as Jibbie's. And Jibbie states- or implies- that he shouldn't be, and what the heck, nobody should be. But then false pride isn't being proud of how you look or what you can do, just that it exists. That's why there's a 'FALSE' before the word 'PRIDE'.
If Jibbie thinks Martin shouldn't be vain because he doesn't have the looks for it, that's because he THINKS so. It's his opinion. Not everybody agrees a flower is a pretty flower anyway.
I'm vain because I am proud of what I can do. I can shut people up. Perhaps I will not be able to with people better and older than me, but that's okay. When you are vain, you stand for yourself. You have a world of your own and you know you rule it. That's why you build a fortress atop it with a banner of whatever strength you've got that deserves your vanity. That's how people survive their social lives. If you don't want to give in to others, you build and stand for yourself.
I'm not saying it's right. It's the state of the world- besides politics and the like. I hate how seeing how sucky the world is, after all the good things I've been taught about it when I was a child.
Sorry about that, just finished watching Dark Knight. D: I've been SCARRED.

Nope, but you clearly were implying such. What do you mean by false pride anyways? We clearly have different definitions. My definition of it is: It's being all show-offy about how good-looking you are even though you're not. It's bragging about your hawt chicks even though they don't really like you. It's informing everyone about your mad skillz even though you're not that great. You see, it's not always pride that needs to be boosted. Sometimes it's humility. That's not vanity. Vanity is overly emphasizing your strength. Your stated level of thinking doesn't quite reach the level of "overly" emphasizing. There were probably lots of time when you thought those things, but then you keep your mouth shut because you know that you could be wrong. That's practicing humility. Was there ever a time when you think, "What a moron, I can do better," spout it out loud, and then go show off your mad skillz, only to find out he was better than you all along? That's when false pride happens, and it can be humiliating. False pride IS being proud of how you look or what you can do. The reason why there's a "FALSE" before "PRIDE" is because you're spouting shit that isn't true. I don't understand how you can come to that conclusion. Oh, and you know, most of the time when I say I am awesome, I don't really mean for you guys to take it seriously. I'm not practicing false pride in that scenario. I'm just screwing around. Normal people survive their social lives even without having false pride.
